Salvation-How? by Francis Schaeffer April 16, 2007

I have been reading “25 Basic Bible Studies” by Francis Schaeffer, an amazing theologian and writer of our own century and lifetimes. Everyday, his simple overview of the true nature of God takes my breath away, sometimes makes me cry, and always, always refreshes my spirit and reinforces my relationship with Jesus. Today, I read about salvation through faith, not through works. If ever there was a refreshing, freeing idea, salvation by faith certainly takes the cake. Acts 4:12 says, “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” Schaeffer sums it up perfectly with this, “It is faith in Christ or nothing.” Nothing I could ever do is good enough to save my soul, which may seem distressing at first, but then, I don’t have to DO anything, He’s already done it for me. In that, there is relief and joy. It is undeniably better to trust someone so much more capable to do it for me, than to try and strive and fail, forever. My failure is in my old humanity, not in the new creation I am in Christ, by faith in his sacrifice. I hope, by reading this, some of you may be refreshed, too, and to stop striving and failing. The victory is won, in Him and Him alone!
